When you want to to symbols like ©, & or ⊗ which aren’t on your keyboard, you need to use special pieces of HTML called HTML Entities. These are small codes that tell the browser to show the symbol. For example, the HTML Entity for © is © and the symbol for & is &.
That’s fine, but how do remember which code creates which symbol?
Well, a chap called Remy has created a fantastic tool which allows you to work out an HTML Entity based on how it looks.
For example, if you type in “c” it gives you all the HTML Entities that look a bit like a letter “c”. These include:

What’s more, he’s even made a desktop wideget for Mac users on top of the online version. Brilliant!!!

Ever wondered how to create those cool “Web 2.0″ reflections and gradients?
Well there are plenty of tutorials out there, but why not just cheat and use these free Photoshop gradients and layer styles?
One of the latest design trends is having subtle reflections of your images, like I’ve done with the screenshot of my book, in the right column of this page.
Normally, you’d use a graphics package like Photoshop to create this kind of effect, but I’ve just stumbled apon a very funky javascript tool that creates reflections for you, automtically.
It’s called Reflection.js.
