The site was down for a day because we got on the digg.com homepage for a second time in a just over week, and my host, Hostgator.com (I won’t link to them - they suck), threw a hissy-fit an suspended my account.

What really sucked about Hostgator was their service. The “abuse” team don’t take phone calls and take up to 48 hours to answer emails. Not much use in an emergency.

I’ve upgraded to a semi-dedicated account and I’d have been happy to do this right away, but their service sucked, so I wasn’t able to.

This meant we missed out on most of the hits from the Digg, which was very disappointing — but hey, you live and learn.

I’ll be switching to a new host soon, I imagine, so if anyone’s got any recommendations for a reliable hosting company that takes phone call, then I want to hear from them.

The good news is I’ve written two posts which I wanted to get on Digg, and both of them did - so I’ve obviously got “the knack” of getting dugg.

I found this web hosting company recently, Sustainable Hosting, who offer environmentally-friendly web hosting.

You get exactly what you would with a normal hosting company, but they use “green” electricity. Basically, it’s a wind powered server.

I was expecting the prices to be higher, given that it’s sustainable hosting, but actually they’re pretty competitive.

I haven’t used them, yet, so I can’t comment on their customer service, but I’m planning to use them for at least one of my clients, so I’ll let you know how I get on with them.
